Mind Catcher by John Darnton

Mind CatcherI just completed Mind Catcher by John Darnton. The book explores the idea of consciousness and its connection to our physical body.

Tyler Jessup, 13 years old, is seriously injured when a piece of climbing equipment strikes him in the head and becomes embedded in his brain. The boy’s father is persuaded to let an accomplish neurosurgeon attempt an experimental operation on the boy in an attempt to save him. The surgeon is assisted by a doctor who is interested in the operation only because of his desire to conduct his consciousness experiments on humans.

Things start happening in the story once Tyler dies.
This is the third book of Darnton’s that I have read. When I get done, I always wish that I had enjoyed them more. I really like Darnton’s stories. He has good plots and his books always include good theoretical discussions (along the lines of what I would expect to find in a Rob Sawyer book). However, his books are never page turners for me.

All in all. It’s a good book and I would recommend it to you if you are looking for something like this to read. If you are looking to try Darnton for the first time, I recommend his first book, Neanderthal over either this book or The Experiment.

There’s nothing like a good book about an errant Neanderthal…
