My New Dice

After Night of the Living Brat Pack, I played a Fudge Mixer. The game used the Fudge Rules (duh!) however the game scenario was randomly determined by having the players each roll a d6. We ended up playing rabbits fighting off creatures such as hamster zombies, a chainsaw wielding polar bear, a rabbit cleric that worshiped Elvis, squirrels driving motorized machine guns, etc. One of our characters played a priest whose magical power was carrotmancy. Needless to say, this was not a serious game. However, we did have a great time.

I also picked up some cheap ($1 or $2) d20 books in the dealer’s room, along with Monster Burner, Magic Burner, and Burning Empires. I am definitely going to have to play a Burning Wheel game sometime soon. At the auction store, I also picked up a book called Role Playing Mastery by Gary Gygax. I can’t imagine that it is actually any good. However, I thought it would be a nice addition to my gaming history section.

Also, the auctioneer called out Wil Wheaton for not attending Gen Con.

Mekton Game

Today, I played a game called Mekton. I had never played it before. We played a variant in which we trying to score a goal (similar to soccer) while attacking the players on the other side. I had an absolute ball. (It helped that our side won the game).

Ben Balestra (from All Games Considered) was the GM and he did a good job keeping the game simple and fast moving.

I also had the opportunity to play D&D 4th edition for the first time. I had a good time playing and there are definitely things about the system that I like. I really like the fact that each player gets his own special attack. On the other hand, I am not crazy about how the spellcasters have been treated. On the whole, I would certainly be open to playing a 4th ed. campaign.

I also managed to score 4 d20 3.5 sourcebooks in the bargain bin for $2 a piece.

All in all, it’s been a great day.

Bill was late because he decided that today was a good day for an oil change, a front end alignment, and to purchase new tires. Chuck ran off and ate dinner with his Indy friends. The rest of us had a great dinner at BARcelona Tapas. It was excellent and I recommend it for anyone visiting Indy.

Gaming starts tomorrow and I will be playing my first game of 4th Edition D&D.
